In working in the mental health field for nearly 10 years, I understand the importance of continuing education and skills enhancement. To better serve you and offer more solutions, I am EMDR certified. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment that was originally designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. This treatment enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of trauma which can take many forms. Should you be a good candidate, we will discuss the process in more detail to ensure you understand how the session will differ from our standard sessions.
More than 30 positive controlled outcome studies have been done on EMDR therapy with some studies demonstrating that 84%-90% of single-trauma victims no longer have post-traumatic stress disorder after only three 90-minute sessions. Another study, funded by the HMO Kaiser Permanente, found that 100% of the single-trauma victims and 77% of multiple trauma victims no longer were diagnosed with PTSD after only six 50-minute sessions. EMDR therapy that it is now recognized as an effective form of treatment for trauma and other disturbing experiences by organizations such as the American Psychiatric Association and the World Health Organization.
I am a self-pay provider and thus “out-of-network” provider with your insurance company. I have made this decision, because I believe it is in the best interest of my clients. Health insurance providers mandate a mental illness diagnosis at the onset of our relationship; this diagnosis will become a part of your medical history. For most people, therapy serves a specific purpose to overcome present difficulties and learn appropriate life skills or recover from a traumatic event. I do not agree with this qualification that would follow you or your loved one throughout your life.
Insurance companies also sets the parameters for care in terms of frequency and care. As a mental health professional dedicated to empowering others and helping them recover from certain situations, I believe treatment should be an individual approach best decided between us.
If it would be helpful for you to use your insurance to reduce your cost of therapy, I am happy to provide a “Super Bill.” This can be sent to your insurance company for partial or full reimbursement. Full payment will be due to Brian Aicher Counseling, LLC at the time of your session. It is important to note that you can also use your Flex Spending Account or Health Savings Account to pay for services. This helps save you money by using tax-free money to pay for services.
